Why do atheist have a problem with snakes and mules talking when they believe apes talk, write books etc etc?

Well, as an atheist, I personally don't believe that apes talk, or write books, or anything else except monkey around (ooooh bad joke!) (and I don't know many who do, but I have learned the hard way that speaking for others is a bad idea). However, if you know a little about my dear friend Charles Darwin, then you know at least a small amount about the Theory of Evolution. And if you don't, Google it! But the reason we (for the most part - again, I don't speak for all atheists, just the ones whose opinions I know) tend not to believe in mules and snakes talking, is because there is 1- no proof they have - or have ever had - the ability to talk. In addition, it is highly unlikely (in my opinion) that they have ever been able to. There's a reason Charles Darwin's "survival of the fittest" idea makes sense: we humans happen to be on top of the food chain, far above mules (whom we use as laborers) and snakes (whom we have no use for except their skin - clothes - and their poison). And last time I checked, we were the first creatures to advance as far as a spoken language (other than possibly dolphins, who were never really mentioned in any religious text). And, as for the apes talking thing, any real atheist who is even smart enough to think about whether there is a god, and come to a decisive conclusion, should be smart enough to realize that apes have not ever talked (at least that we know of).
